You know what is overrated? The future. Where’s my freaking jet pack? Cities on the moon? Sassy robot maids? Hot and cold running Tang? Do they even sell Tang anymore? And, in hindsight, what does Tang have to do with the future? It’s just water mixed with sugar and artificial coloring. Couldn’t they at least get up to element 119 on the table (ununoctium is so 2002). The future makes me so mad… Well, the distant future, anyway - the not-too-distant future has the Goodship crew taking over both Daisy Baker’s and Bacchus for two floors of sonic + visual shenanigans. And really, when was the last time you let yourself have a full-on shenan? Joining the Goodship regulars (all of our restraining orders have lapsed, plus we got our shots for this one - promise) will be cml (top floor, top shelf beats) and Lazer & Blazer (ground floor on & on - all night!), which pretty much just means this will be unstoppable. As opposed to the future, which is apparently entirely stoppable - transporters? C’mon.

Jesse Stiles is a myth and a legend. I actually heard on the internet that Jesse Stiles is the the chap who made the final call on what bird belonged to which state as their “state bird”. Considering how close Mr. Stiles is with the animals, I wont even go into detail on how difficult of a decision this was for him. Not only was it difficult, you can’t even deny the sure brilliance of deciding that the Western Meadowlark belonged to Nebraska.
Here is a live set by The Jesse Stiles 3000 featuring real-time remixes of
M.I.A., The Beach Boys, Spank Rock, Belle & Sebastion, The Jesse
Stiles 3000, a tugboat, and several dozen other things. It was performed/recorded over at Revolution hall in Troy, NY in conjunction with our goodship New Years Resolutions 3 part party series.
This dude kills and he does it way better than anybody else I know of. I have been getting into all sorts of different kind of music because I am really feeling shellshocked over so much bass and dirty gritty french house stuff. I wish there was more of that super dancey but not blow your eardrums up stuff around (basically more dubsided-ish stuff). I am sure there is, leave comments and tell me about it.
Anyway, Hostage totally kills. Checkout his myspace for more tracks/tourdates/mixes of his. Like I said, I had been feeling kind of sick of this style of music, but Hostage totally brings it back and makes me remember why it blew my mind the first time I heard it.
spring is here! birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and music is in the air. here’s a little mix to celebrate the spirit of spring. forget the economic gloom for a little while and relax yourself and let that sugar love flow, as camp lo would say.
(disclaimer: sorry for the sloppiness at parts. truth be told, i’m still at best a novice at this thing.)

“Raised in Avalon, Mississippi, he learned to play guitar at age 9. He spent much of his youth playing old time music for friends and dances, earning a living as a farm hand into the 1920s. In 1923 he partnered with the fiddle player Willie Narmour (Carroll County Blues) as a substitute for his regular partner Shell Smith. When Narmour got a chance to record for Okeh Records as a prize for winning first place in a 1928 fiddle contest, Narmour recommended John Hurt to Okeh Records producer Tommy Rockwell. After auditioning “Monday Morning Blues” at his home, he took part in two recording sessions, in Memphis and New York City (See Discography below). The “Mississippi” tag was added by Okeh as a sales gimmick. After the commercial failure of the resulting records, and Okeh records going out of business during the depression, Hurt returned to Avalon and obscurity, working as a sharecropper and playing local parties and dances.
In 1963, however, a folk musicologist named Tom Hoskins, inspired by the recordings, was able to locate[5] John Hurt near Avalon, Mississippi. In fact, in an early recording, Hurt sang of “Avalon, my home town.” Seeing that Hurt’s guitar playing skills were still intact, Hoskins encouraged him to move to Washington, DC, and begin performing on a wider stage. Whereas his first releases had coincided with the Great Depression, his new career could hardly have been better timed. A stellar performance at the 1963 Newport Folk Festival saw his star rise amongst the new “folk revival” audience, and before his death in 1966 he played extensively in colleges, concert halls, coffee houses and even the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, as well as recording three further albums for Vanguard Records. John Hurt’s influence spans several music genres including blues, country, bluegrass, folk and contemporary rock and roll. A soft-spoken man, his nature was reflected in the work, which remained a mellow mix of country, blues and old time music to the end.”
This guy totally shreds, and is one of the few things I feel is capable of keeping me together lately.
I did a mix about making out with girls on the bleachers by the football field after the 7th grade under the sea prom. Well, Kinda.
Lunch break mix #2 :: No do-overs, just 20-30 minutes of a theme/genre/style that I am feeling at the moment.
Yes, this is legitimate lunch break action because YES I work on weekends half the time.
I have been feeling such a lack of love around me lately, hence this mix. Enjoy.

so, I’m going to start recording mini mixes here at work on our DJ setup and posting them. Hopefully this will happen weekly.
No editing, no do-overs, just one shot about 20 minutes long of some stuff that I am into recently. I hope you enjoy.
This mix I tried to do a little something different, I have been really into some minimal techno stuff recently but NEVER get a chance to play it because I don’t think my crowd would really be into it. Here is a first attempt.
Thanks to Pelham123 (Matt Rainville) over at RSSO for a lot of these track suggestions.
