Cycling awareness / helping a friend

June 23rd, 2010 by jenkins · No Comments

Dear friends,

Erin Colligan, a beloved member of the Troy community, avid cyclist and talented stylist at Indigo Organic Salon on River Street, was struck by a motorist on May 24 while riding her bike through the intersection of Hoosick St. and 6th Ave.

Erin suffered serious injuries including 4 broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a broken shoulder blade, 2 fractured spinal processes and a broken clavicle which required a steel plate to surgically repair the bone, found to have snapped out her neck, protruding the skin. Thankfully, Erin was wearing her helmet - found to have cracked in half when her head hit the pavement - which saved her life.

Erin is the mother and primary caregiver of her 2 daughters, Betsey - age 3 and Riley - 8 mos. As a result of these injuries, Erin will not be able to care for her children for 8+ weeks while she recovers. She will also not be able to return to work as a stylist during her busiest season of the year given this recovery time. The financial toll on this family will be immense.

WAYS TO HELP:

- Donate Money: Tight Knit has set up a donation link for friends and fellow community members to contribute funds in support of Erin during this tremendously difficult time. Erin has a mortgage to pay and children to feed and with no income, life is truly very hard right now. Please give in any amount you can - all donations made through the link below will go directly to Erin and her children.

- Raise Awareness: A bike ride en masse is currently being organized and will take place in the streets of Troy later this summer. Please stay tuned for details on time, location and how to sign up. “Share the Road” t-shirts, designed by Don Naylor Art & Design, will be sold during our Saturday market to raise additional funds for Erin.

- Share the Road: If you are a motorist, please be conscious and respectful of cyclists on the road. The same laws that apply to drivers of motor vehicles also apply to riders of bicycles in New York State. Reduce speed when encountering cyclists. Don’t tailgate, especially in bad weather. Give cyclists space and yield to them when they have the right of way. Pass with care. Have respect. BICYCLES ARE VEHICLES. SHARE THE ROAD. Had a motorist not taken the right of way from Erin, she would never have been hit.

THANK YOU!!!

TNO Afterparty June 25th, 2010

TNO Afterparty
Friday, June 25th, 2010
9pm-2am
FREE! | 18 to get in, 21 to drink (ID required)
Daisy Bakers | 33 2nd Street | Troy, NY | 518-266-9200

There’s quite a buzz going on with electronic dance music lately, and there’s a lot going this TNO. We highly recommend you check out as much as possible, including our wonderful little party in Troy. Troy folk, check out Albany early and end your night here. For the rest of you, start here and end wherever. Or just stay here the whole time, as Jenkins is ending the night. He might not play house, but he’ll end it right. We’ve got Properly Chilled for the middle slot, so expect dance-o-mania in that department. And starting things off is a new combo of McGillicuddy and Back from Japan. We’re still waiting to hear what they have planned, but expect madness and/or Kiwi Politics. Very serious stuff.

DJs:
9pm-11pm: McGillicuddy Serious Party
11pm-12:30am: Properly Chilled
12:30am-2am: Jenkins

The last friday of every month, come for Troy Night Out and stay out late with us! Daisy Baker’s, 9pm-2am, FREE, dance till you can’t.

Super-rad dance party at the Troy Bike Rescue with out-of-towners Pine Island and Steer! We’ve got some super-fun plans for this one, it’s gonna get nice and sweaty at the bike rescue, so come out and party with us! This show will be starting in a timely manner since we don’t want to cause any trouble with the neighbors… we have, however, given ample time for anyone who will be traveling from Albany after the Hoborchestra performance which will be ending promptly at 8pm!

$3 donation for touring bands and the bike rescue.
BYOB. Bring sunglasses if you easily succumb to strobe lights.

TNO Afterparty! April 30th, 2010 @ Daisy Baker’s

MEGA

Pre-Diplo / Post-Girl Talk / All Night Dance Party!

The TNO Afterparty :: Special Mega Afterparty Edition
Friday, April 30th, 2010
9pm-2am
FREE! | 18 to get in, 21 to drink (ID required)
Daisy Bakers | 33 2nd Street | Troy, NY | 518-266-9200
This month: Properly Chilled and Robin Moreau

As you may already know, tonight is a MEGA huge night in Troy. Besides TNO, we have the One Dot Zero festival at EMPAC, which brings in Diplo (my personal favorite) and Anti VJ (wow! amazing mindbending stuff), among others. And besides EMPAC, the mash-up Girl Talk is playing on the other side of RPI. It’s ridiculous! If this tweet from Diplo doesn’t explain it, I don’t know what will.

RT @therealgirltalk: @diplo let me know if u wanna catch the krueger remake 2morrow (so there dude. Or ironman2) about 7 hours ago via UberTwitter (via http://twitter.com/diplo/status/13112436833)

A meeting of the titans, for sure. Seriously though, that’d be like both Dukes of Hazard getting together for an ultimate river jumping competition. Wow. But if you don’t have time to stalk the local theaters, we’ve got you taken care of at the TNO Afterparty, at least with the grooves.

We’re starting at 9:00 with Properly Chilled and Robin Moreau, dropping the sweetness for you all night. Diplo show-goers can come early or head down for the last hour of dancefloor heat (it’s the afterparty for the afterparty, ya dig?). And what do you do if you don’t have Diplo tickets once Girl talk is out? That’s right, Daisy Baker’s!
