diplo’s got a “collected works” coming out called Decent Work for Decent Pay. apparently it’s out in the UK already, or at least the Ninjatune shop wants you to buy it. in any case, when you can buy it, buy it, but in the meantime do what you gotta do. that link has the tracklist.
while trying to figure out when that came out, I noticed he put out his first single on his own label Mad Decent. grab it from turntablelab here.
so, without directly helping the cause, here’s a live set from diplo–one of my favorites–playing in NYC at Halycon way back when. on the surface it sounds much different than his recent stuff, but you can still hear his signature mixing style/long-term flow thing going on. it’s a journey and all that. couldn’t find a track list, but its a wide mix of stuff, from jazz to hip hop to 80’s to a cover of hotel california sung in spanish. ok that last one may be a lie. recommended for early mornings, late nights, and/or work time.
Diplo - Live At Halcyon, NYC. November 26, 2004 (about an hour long and awesome)

Ground Zero Zombie Walk
December 17th, 2008 · No Comments
For some reason a few years ago a couple of us geeks decided it would be a good idea to do a mock up zombie invasion on campus the night of Halloween. It’s become kind of a tradition and while it hasn’t reached epic proportions by any means, Blair Neal has been there since the beggining documenting it and providing hilariously edited recaps of the stroll of the dead. He just sent me his edit of the 2008 walk, and I have also included the 2007 one.

Im also going to shamelessly include this because I love Andrew Eckel and think he plays my songs better than I do. Checkout his website and his own music while you are at it.

My Music Organization…
December 9th, 2008 · 7 Comments
So, With Kevin’s help I have devised for myself a pretty great way of organizing my music in OSX10.5. I figured since many friends of ours have massive music collections and a bunch of our friends are also DJ’s, it might be a worthwhile thing to do to put together a post about my music organization workflow. Take it for what it is, and if you are not a DJ it might not be that handy to you, but it still may be interesting :)
The primary reason for this organization system is that it allows for music to be organized under multiple genres with multiple keywords. With a combination of Saved Smart Searches and comment tagging, a new way of forming “folders” for genres of music materializes. I like it because it allows you to organize music the old school way in folders, but have no affect whatsoever on your smart Search folders.
here is the general step by step workflow of it for those interested.

After showing Lykke Li to a co-worker and him promptly purchasing it off Itunes, he showed me this little gem that it reminded him of. I know the whole childrens keyboard thing is a little odd, but give it a few minutes.

Lykke Li & Punks Jump Up
October 29th, 2008 · No Comments
This video is totally killer, and the song has been stuck in my head for at least a week now.
Same song I know, but this video is so well done too that I just had to post it.
I had never heard this song until seeing the video, and at the beginning I thought it was a little too “flower child” feeling for me. Maybe it was just the fact she was dancing around outside singing with bells on her wrists. But anyway, that didn’t last long. Id say about 30 seconds into it I was completely hypnotized by her voice.
Equally awesome video, and catchy tune.
Check them out:

And checkout this sweet remix from Punks Jump Up of the first track posted, breaking it up.

Hope to see you all Friday night at Midnight for the OUTNOA Halloween edition!
